The Urban Unit, a key technical arm of the Government of Punjab, is recruiting a Senior Specialist Economics for the Punjab Affordable Housing Program.
This is a senior technical position focused on ensuring that housing and urban development decisions are grounded in sound economic reasoning.
The role sits within a multidisciplinary team that supports public and private sector stakeholders with evidence-based planning and policy.
You will be responsible for designing and conducting economic analyses that directly shape project outcomes across various urban sectors.
This includes assessing the economic impact of infrastructure projects, evaluating the interlinkages between spatial and economic visions, and providing technical input on the location and design of schemes.
Your work will inform decisions made by the Program Director and Deputy Program Director, as well as external partners.
A significant part of the job involves engaging with decision-makers in both government and the private sector.
You will present analytical findings in one-on-one meetings and group briefings, and work to persuade stakeholders of the merits of your recommendations.
This is not a purely academic role; it requires the ability to translate complex economic research into practical, actionable advice.
Eligibility and Qualification
Candidates must meet the following education and experience requirements
- Master’s or higher degree in Economics, Urban Economics, Applied Economics, Development Economics, or a related field, preferably from a reputable foreign university. A higher qualification will be preferred.
- For candidates with a Master’s degree: Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience in economic analysis, urban economics, development planning, public policy, infrastructure, housing, or related projects in the public and/or private sector.
- For candidates with a PhD: Minimum 08 years of relevant professional experience in economic analysis, urban economics, development planning, public policy, infrastructure, housing, or related projects in the public and/or private sector.
- Gender: Both. Age: 18 – 50 years.
- Domicile is required for this position.
Responsibilities
- Effectively plan, design, and conduct economic analyses that advance the objectives of project teams working on issues across varying urban sectors.
- Conduct economic change related analysis and provide expertise in the location and technical criteria of schemes, interlinkages of spatial and economic visions and the economic impact of development and urban infrastructure projects.
- Critically analyze and assess economic research and arguments presented by project partners, stakeholders, and others.
- Actively engage public and private sector decision-makers in one-on-one meetings, group briefings, and other venues to persuade them of analytically based recommendations.
- Any other task assigned by the Program director and Deputy Program director IPF.
