Job Overview
The Punjab Resource Management & Policy Unit, operating under the Planning and Development Board, is seeking a Senior Economist for its Transformation of Punjab Resource Management & Policy Unit (TPRMPU) project.
The Senior Economist will lead policy formulation, sector planning, and economic appraisal for proposed projects.
The role involves conducting feasibility studies, cost-benefit analysis, and providing data-driven economic inputs for investment decisions.
You will monitor economic indicators, advise on financial sustainability, and support evidence-based policymaking across the province.
This position offers an opportunity to influence public sector resource utilization and contribute to Punjab's long-term economic development.
The role requires close coordination with government departments and a deep understanding of public sector operations.
Eligibility and Qualification
Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria
- 16 years of education in Economics, Development Economics, or related fields from a foreign or local university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.
- A PhD will be preferred.
- 12 years of documentary verifiable post qualification experience in policy formulation, policy analysis, sector planning, economic and financial appraisal, and economic modeling.
- Significant experience working in or with Government / Public Sector organizations.
- Core competencies: Policy Formulation / Analysis, Sector Planning, Economic modeling, Cost-benefit analysis, Data interpretation.
- Gender: Both. Age: 34 to 55 years.
- Domicile is required for this position.
Responsibilities
- Policy formulation and sector plan review, update and preparation.
- Conduct economic appraisals and feasibility studies for proposed projects, including demand and supply analysis, cost benefit analysis, and value for money.
- Provide well researched, data driven economic inputs for project appraisal and investment reports.
- Monitor and evaluate key economic indicators during project implementation and recommend corrective actions to ensure alignment with intended outcomes.
- Advise on strategies to improve the long term financial and economic sustainability of projects, including user cost recovery models and potential public-private partnership (PPP).
- Support evidence-based decision making by integrating robust economic analysis into planning and policy.
- Lead the research/surveys and review/analyze socio-economic data to continuously evaluate the province's economic situation and coordinate economic policies.
- Assist/Advise in the assessment of material, capital, and human resources of the public sector for optimal utilization in development plans.
